How was everyone's long weekend and Easter? Did the Easter bunny find you? My hubby and I had a delicious dinner at my parent's house last night, with some delicious cupcakes ( a new recipe which I will be sharing soon) and a mini Easter egg hunt for my niece. It was good.
Over here on the west coast we've had glorious sun all weekend long. It feels so good. It was perfect time for me to start the seeds for my veggie garden this summer. It always makes me so excited when the time comes again to start working in the garden. I love going out to the back and seeing what is sprouting, flowering or bearing new fruit. I just love it.
I bought some soil pods. They look like this.

They're like discs with soil in them, and when you put them in water they expand and plump up.

You have to let them sit in the water for a little bit. I got mine at my local garden shop in a pack of 25 for $5. And I start saving my egg cartons to place these pods in. I feel like it's my part in being green and I don't really need to go out and buy those fancy plastic containers. Using what I have.
As for the seeds, I bought all my seeds from West Coast Seeds. They're local, organic and all of their seeds are made to fit the climate I live in. The only one not from them that I'm also planting is a pack of lettuce seeds that I had still from last year. The good thing about using West Coast Seeds is that they have all the info I need for planting and transplanting, the size of the plant, maintenance and care of that plant. I love them.

So, as you can see I have a whole bunch of seeds to plant. But it's all good. I just keep thinking of all the veggies I am going to have over the summer.
I fill the egg cartons with the soil pods and just poke into the soil and place my seeds. I labeled them with post its and a Sharpie. Super easy. And sitting in the sunshine makes the time go by very nicely.

The last thing I do is cover them with plastic wrap to keep the moisture in and I let them sit on the floor by the window and in the sun. I find that the plastic wrap keeps the seeds nice and warm and helps them sprout quickly.
I'll be sure to keep you posted on what sprouts first. Are you planting anything?
